Driving lights

I asked my MA about the cost of driving lights installed at the port. The price on MINI's website is $331, but the installed price is $861.

That's just terrible for what they want to have those things installed. You would almost think at $331 that would include everything! I understand they have to make a few bucks but that is insane for what one gets. I think last I checked my dealer wanted $1200 to install them at the dealership of course.. I told them in a nice way that they were crazy lol

That amounts to about $530 in labor. Unreal! Seems like it could be installed at the factory for considerably less.

I totally agree.. This item should be allowed to be installed at the factory for little to nothing. Ive always wondered why it is they don't just install them right at the factory. It would make sense to me for them to just do it there. Ive heard a few crazy stories having them installed at a dealer..Not so good turn out when they do a software up date.

Since you can now order them on the Mini configure site, my guess is they come installed for the $300+.

When I ordered my 2013 you couldn't. There was a hidden cost in there anyways. But if you could order them for $300 installed I would do it totally.. Heck $400 I would even do it! lol

I stopped by Mini of Stevens Creek in San Jose today and they had a new F56 with driving lights that came ordered that way right from the factory.

It would seem that those of us who ordered prior to a few days ago before the Accessories listing was added to MINI's website can't add the driving lights for the $331 price. I am disappoint

Does anyone know how much they are just to order after the fact. I wanted driving lights on my new MCS but they weren't on the configuration at the time. If it's a kit I am perfectly capable of doing my own install, but if they're some ridiculous price I'll go buy a nice set of black body PIIA's and do it myself!

My dealer wants 900 after the fact. Appearently, they now have to take the front off to do the install. That's why it it so expensive. No thanks

I was wondering if the F56 requires a software update to adapt the driving lights. I know the R56 does. I would of installed them myself but the dealer was going to charge another $300-$400 to update the ECU so they worked.lol.

When having them installed on my '14 fJCW Clubman, they said they were plug and play.
Some sort of module that plugged inline with the headlights and operated with the brights.
The labor was for removing the front bumper in order to install the brackets and the thread the wiring.
After purchase lights are about 500.00
Labor can run from 550.00 to 675.00
I wanted them, so I payed.
IF the lights are now available FROM the factory, you guys win, win, win.
But check close when printing out your config from the web site.
Items listed under dealer addons/install will cost you extra, it's how they get back that 1500.00 off MSRP.

Update the ecu for driving lights? WTF? I had to have my "computer" updated on my 2008 Justa when my windows went wonky. When I brought it in for the update they told me that the computer that performed the update was down because it was being updated.

On my 2009 Justa there was a dealer install cost added on, to install the driving lights. You can order the mounts, Hella 500 lights and the complete harness from VIP and do it yourself much cheaper. If VIP doesn't have the mounts available yet, they will.

Got a link for VIP. Googled it but got way too much to isolate.

Thanks,

I just checked the site and they don't have the F56 mounts listed yet. They may not have gotten their hands on the car yet. They make everything themselves and it is great stuff. I have their quad mount. Just give them a call. They are very easy to work with and can tell you when they will be available.

JB,

Website: ????
Phone Number: ?????

They're not in the vendor directory here in NAM. At least not as "VIP" so inquiring minds want to know!

One thing for sure is I do really think those driving lights give the MINI that added touch! They are cool. I know I can order the complete factory driving light kit for my R56. But it says I will still need to bring it to the dealership for ecu update to adapt the driving lights. Maybe the F56 made it easier now. But my bet is also theres a dealer add on cost somewhere..sneaky lol

Personally I think there is to many things controlled by the computer in cars in general now a days.. I see no reason why things like the radio, windows, lights and things like that even need to be tied into the computer lol its crazy!! lol

I have the instructions on how to do this if anyone is doing it themselves. I am and will post pictures. By the way according to the workshop manual it should take 2 hours. I remember my mechanic saying that they always lost money installing these lights...

I'd love to get a copy of the workshop manual. Do you have a copy? If yes where can I get one?

TIA
