Rear bumper protector

The hatch on our Mini is used several times daily for the loading and unloading of science teacher necessities.
Is there a bumper protector that is available to eliminate the inevitable inadvertent abrasion?

Yes, get a 3M clear bra. It is a clear plastic film that goes on areas the car that are prone to chipping and scratches.

I got the whole package, covering the nose, headlights, rearview mirrors, the area behind the door handles, where you fingernails can scratch the paint and on the back bumper.

I'm surprised that your dealer didn't offer that package. You could get just the rear bumper protection. I'd go to a local installer, rather than the dealer, it would be cheaper.

Some dealers just don't mess with it. Mini North Scottsdale never mentioned it on both cars that I bought. I considered it in front up to the headlights where 90% of the rock dings occur.

Yeah, doesn't seem offered by my dealer either. They do Dupont Paint Protection instead on the entire car, I haven't read much of anything favorable about that. 3M Clear Bra looks interesting though, I'll have to see if any indie shops in the area apply it. I never trust myself for DIY work

My dealership (Flow MINI of Raleigh) offers a Wear & Tear package for $299. It includes a bumper protector as well as protectors for the door edges and door handle areas. If you Google "3M Wear & Tear Package" you'll find a PDF with the details.

...or just carry a color coordinated towel that you place over the back area when you are loading (remembering to wash it every once in a while). In those parking situations you are worried about sandwich the long edge in the hatch so it hangs down giving a small amount of protection and a visual indication to drivers not to hit it.
Cheap and simple.

Our dealership automatically put 3M film on the edge of the doors and offered clear bra up to about 5" past scoop, mirror caps, under the door handles, and rear bumper, but they were about 1/3 more expensive than doing locally and we would have had to wait a couple more days on delivery. They also offered window tinting to our state's regs.

We had the same as above put on our R56 and it really worked well protecting those areas from 5 years of rock chips, bug gut acid eating juices, and loading/unloading abrasions. That was also the 3M product, but we had the vendor at MINIs In The Mountains do the job.

Only thing to watch out for, although I haven't had that problem, is if you use a high pressure spray nozzle at a carwash, to not inadvertently "catch" the edge of the film and lift it up. Shouldn't, but can, happen. Also, sometimes in the right light, a little dust along the edge of the film can be seen and some folks don't like that.
