Need to be a member, former member, or dependent of the military.

Or former wife of military (like mine). But do you have to buy the insurance?

I think you have to have some kind of account, banking, credit card, insurance. Not sure how you prove ability to join. I was a dependent then became a member.

Nope... but good luck finding it cheaper anywhere else.

After being constantly bombarded with insurance ads I figured I'd just call Geico just to see what they would offer. The person on the phone basically said: "Oh, you have USAA? Yeah we can't compete with that. Have a good day".

susanmini: That's exactly what I'm doing. I just sent it to the salesman I've been working with. I hope they can make it work since I'd really like to give them my business even if it is at a reduced profit margin

USAA Buy

I don't know all the qualification issues for USAA membership. I am a veteran and that got me the membership. You don't have to buy insurance from them to do the car buy but they also seem to be offering like .6% loans for 36 months if you do buy thru them.

I did my apples to apples comparison last night and on a $30K build configuration their savings were $1300. I'll take that to my nearest dealer and if they won't match then I'll drive the 3 hrs to Atlanta to the dealer thats in their network.

I've bought 2 MINI's from them so I'm hoping they will deal, but I'm willing to drive an additional 50 miles for $500.
What zip code are you using? When I punch it into USAA, I only get around $500 off....I don't mind going far away for an extra 1500.00. Thanks

I seemed to have goofed. I went back and reconfigured on the USAA website under car buying service and came up with a "Target Price" of $26,900 on an MSRP of $27,995 for an S model with automatic and very few options. So the savings is $1,095 (I must have transposed the 9 and 0). The $500 is the amount that MINI gives in incentives to all USAA members. There are a few dealers that USAA works with that give the higher discount. I live near Sacramento and the "Target Price" was for a dealer 94 miles away, which I believe is in the SF Bay area. Sorry for the mistake.

Cool, thx for clarifying. I would hope my dealer would do the 1k plus the usaa discount or at least the loyalty 500 plus the usaa 500..

There are now lease offers on both the base and S F56. $250 owner loyalty credit from MINI Financial Services as well.

I just joined USAA, I am a veteran, when I try to put in Mini it says no dealers are in my area, is there a way to search further? I want to get a quote and bring it to my local dealer.

Any ideas?

There is a difference between the usaa discount and their car buying service. Just being a member gets you the discount. As far as the car buying service goes, my dealer says its a load of crap and they don't honor it.

I found that my nearest dealer wasn't in the USAA network, but when I showed him the USAA paperwork he matched the deal. Find the other dealers in your area and plug their zip code into the USAA configurator (not the Mini configurator). Once you've got the price worked out, bring that paperwork to your local guy or go the distance if they won't deal.

Good Luck

Looks like my local Dealer does take USAA, it did not show them prior I am guessing because they are not that close to me.

Based on my build (Fully Loaded about $36K MSRP) it is close to $1500 off. I did notice some of the options on the USAA website are not exactly the same as the Mini website.

I e-mailed my Salesperson to see where we go from here.

Glad I came across this, every dollar helps.
