Sticky parking brake on 2014 F56
Sticky parking brake on 2014 F56
My 2014 F56's parking brake is sticking when the weather gets below 30 degrees. The symptoms are it gets below freezing and when I go to drive, I release the parking brake and the lever just lets go, but the brake is still applied. Sometimes I can move the car enough that it rolls but is dragging the brake (and smells like a stuck pad), other times like today the car won't move at all. It's a manual, so every time I park for the night, I have to use the parking brake. It happened last year too, and my mechanic lubricated it, but said it will need to be replaced eventually. Well, eventually is back again as we're hitting cold weather in Massachusetts this week. My real question is how can I un-stick the parking brake enough to move when it's cold out? I just need to get it unstuck so I can get it to the mechanic later this week. I'm thinking of using a heat gun near the rear rotors, but don't want to ruin anything. Any thoughts? Thanks.
Yep sticking rear brake cables. Its common on the Gen 1 and Gen 2 MINIs. https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...in-an-r53.html

They are similar but a bit different set up on the F56+. I would get them at least free and lubed on the old ones.
Great DIY for brakes. Check out the rear brakes and how they slide and work.

Most people just replace the cables and then with new ones you want to hit them with lube spray inside once a year.
