Key Not Found In Car
Key Not Found In Car
Aloha from Maui all! Wife has a 2021 JCW F57 with just under 500 miles now. Love the car, but twice now it's said she has no key in the car even though she's very much sitting in the car with her key in her purse. Same way she's always driven her R56 for 11 years. 1st time there were actually TWO keys in the car (hers and mine both) and I had just pumped gas. I thought maybe it was slow to recognize me getting back in the car then I remembered her key was in there the whole time. 2nd time was today after she got off work, unlocked the car and got in just fine....it said no key detected and wouldn't start. After about 5 tries....it started.
Is this excessive lag normal???
Just looking for input.

OK, I've got to ask. I come from a different era. I remember cranking two longs and a short for central and a time when you could see the ground past the engine. So here it is. You get into the car and the car tells you whether or not you've got a key. How the hell does the car even know you're there?

Although the previous time when I was driving I didn't hit the switch but it was either
A. Saying it because the pressure switch in the passenger seat knew someone was there and telling them there was no key
B. Knew I got in the car because the driver's door open then shut.
Key issue
Hi, I had a 2015 5 door and randomly it did this for a period of about a year and a half before a traded the car in. The worst was when I would start the car and then it would decide there was no key and tell me it couldn’t start. The Dealership did updates and that seemed to fix it mostly but from time to time it would still happen. I played about with it and discovered that possibly one of the sensors that detects the keys could have been faulty or had a loose connection as if I kept the key out of my pocket and placed in the cup holders at the gear stick it very rarely would do it. Apparently in the 5 door there are two sensors, one at the gear stick and one in one of the back pillars. Maybe something to look at. hope this helps.
I was sharing this with one of the guys at morning coffee and he said he had a similar situation with his wife's car (don't remember what make) so we began to discuss possible future scenarios. It came down to this: The fridge tells you and the car you are out of milk. You get in the car and it drives to the store. It stops at a window where an arm delivers a quart of milk to a hatch on the side of the car. The store reads your credit card number stored in the car's system and the car takes you home. That hatch opens and delivers the milk to another slot on the side of the house delivering it to the fridge. Then you stop and think why in the he11 did I go along. I fear those days are not far off.

Seriously guys, no one's looking into possible issues with the CAS module or the radio transmission/receiver module? Be nice to see someone who would have plugged it into BMW's ISTA+ and see if that can help locate the issues.
