Front end noise.

My 2016 S makes a knocking noise in the right front end when I hit uneven pavement. Imagine the sound of a plastic coffee mug in the cup holder rattling around. Sounds like that, weird reference I know. If I even slightly apply the brakes and hit any type of bump the noise goes away.

Any thoughts?

I have a 2016 S as well and found out from dealer that there's a TSB out for issues with the front strut mounts. Mine have been making noise so they'll be replacing them under warranty. My symptoms are a bit different, but I'd check to see if it's related.

Thanks. I think I have the problem narrowed down to the brake pads moving in side the mounting bracket. There is some play in the pads which I have read about quite a bit on this page. I pulled the pads and bent the metal tabs on the pads in a way that limited the movement. Seems to have stopped the problem.

Seems that some brake kits come with various shims...naturally my $40 autozone pads only had one shim of the back of the pad. I also thought about the strut mount TSB but my car just dipped out of warranty so hopefully it's my brakes and not he mounts.

My 08 had the same problem that would go away when stepping on the brakes.... It was indeed loose brake pads... they had left off an adhesive backing so the pads were loose and moving around. Once the adhesive pads were installed behind the brake pads the noise was gone for good..

So I did replace the pads this past weekend and the noise is gone. All I can say is this brake job has been the biggest pain in the ***. Easy install but the parts fiasco...Rock Auto screws up the order...refuses to refund me despite their error, order new parts...wrong front sensor from Autozone...loose brake pads in front causing noises....replaced with Powerstop pads so now we're all good. Ahhh Jeeps were so easy in hindsight.

Use one of the vendors that support the forum. I only use Autozone if I need something today and it is something tiny. A lot of the vendors that support the forum focus in on the mini so they have a tendency to go through junk parts that "would work" on a Mini but you don't really want to use them when you could spend another $ and move up.
