My September registered Cooper D threw a message of 'ignition/starter fault phone Mini assist ' message on Tuesday.
Following a 4 hour exercise in buck passing (BMW emergency doesn't seem to function after 5 - it is much better to tow my car a round trip of 90 miles on the motorway to bring it back to a dealer a mile from my home)
I am now semi -permanently installed in a rental car as my mini requires a new electronic power steering assembly .
I live 50 miles from the factory where my car was built but
the parts are on back order to Germany with an earliest delivery date of 26th Feb.
I don't believe it will be mended then as according to Endeavour my car rental has been extended by Mini assist until 5th March.
The interest /help from my Dealer and MINI has been appalling.
The dealer has no interest in letting me have one of their cars and I spoke to Customer service at MINI who haven't even bothered to come back to me.
If I wanted to drive a Vauxhall I would have bought one.

Just in time means no spare parts in a factory, just enough for the production of that day.
And its quite "normal" that new cars have more problems.The factory producing those assemblies delivers them to the Mini factory first.You'll have to wait.It's sad but that is our real world.

 

Update - car returned in working order last night - returned with bodywork damage so needs to go into the body shop to replace the front nearside black wheelarch trim which appears to have been pulled away and split whilst out of my custody ( I suspect it is something to do with pulling a strap away from the wheel on the spectacle lift and catching the trim).. Dealer blames BMW Assistance and I was told to expect a call from them today to organise a repair.
Guess What?
