I have a2017 F54 JCW that came with the Harmon Kardon system, and I replaced the factory HK amp with a MatchUp 8BMW amplifier - in part because that amplifier has a subwoofer out RCA jack to alllow you to hook up an external subwoofer that the internal DSP can control.
I used Bimmerlink on my phone with my trusty Veepeak OBDCheck BLE+ OBD2 interface.
Pretty simple to turn off the stupid fake engine noise - or so I thought- "Active Sound Design".
Bimmerlink supplies a page with a big "on" or "off" button. I clicked "off" to turn the fake engine noise off, and thought the deed was done.
But now, I have the subwoofer installed in the car, and have the remote gain control for that external amplifier mounted up front.
I am noticing that if I have the gain **** turned up, there is quite a rumble coming through the subwoofer when the car is in sport or mid mode. When I put the car in green mode,it basically disappears.
That makes me think the Bimmerlink app does NOT in fact turn off the fake engine noise.
Has anyone else had this issue? Is there an additional step, or another way to disable ASD? I really don't want it. Especially with the subwoofer, it really is invasive.
So I did use BimmerLink to deactivate ASD on my 2019 Mini Clubman S All 4. I have the Base head unit.
Correction : I used Bimmercode
I followed some instructions from ChatGPT, a very easy mod… and so happy to get rid of the fake noise. There was a mention that muting or turning ASD off sometimes doesn’t last and it goes back on.
Attached is a screenshot with instructions to deactivate rather than turning off or mute.
Hope this helps.
ASD deactivate.
