Headlight spiderweb cracks

So I just noticed this the other day. It seems to have happened in a matter of weeks because I’ve never noticed it until recently. Anyone else experienced this. Mines an 18. And I tried some Maguires plastic polish by hand and it didnt change a thing.

That appears to be crazing. You’d need to determine if the crazing is inside or out. If it’s inside you’re pretty much SOL, if it’s outside you’d probably need to get to a more aggressive sanding then work down to a very fine grit before polish.

The meguiars works wonders on small surface scratches, but crazing is like micro cracks. Like any scratch. If you can’t shave it off, for it to be less visible you need to round the edges that are reflecting the light.

My '17 and '19 both have/had those marking on the headlight lenses. Appears to be from the original manufacturing process. Defines the area of the headlight that the light is projected through. So I guess you can put away the pitchforks and torches for another problem.

Sorry landspeeder...you're talking about the parting lines from the molding process. Those are certainly suppose to be there. The crazing (what looks like the speckling on the lense) is normally cause when excessive tensile strength is applied to a polymer.

FWIW, I have had good success with the dealer replacing plastic body parts at no charge during the warranty period. Especially troublesome for me have been black trim pieces that have had unremovable stains from cosmoline (from factory shipping anti-corrosion treatment). If the dots in OP's photos are not from something picked up from road spray (or if they are internal), and the car is under warranty, I'd chat with a friendly Service Advisor or Service Manager to get a specific diagnosis and, hopefully, get it corrected by MINI.

Best of luck.

My 17 did that last year. It was under warranty and dealer wouldn't do anything about it. Third MINI from that dealer too. My car, with under 20k miles, has terrible looking lights now. And seeing at night is getting harder too. The spider web scratches get worse fast and dulls the already dull light output (I only have base halogen lights). Hope you get it replaced under warranty!
