tks for the update. When you mentioned about suspension update could you detail that? Did you just lower the car or update to coilover?

About the engine temperature did you get any information on dashboard? was a code? On my experience at the track typically is easier to manage water temperature than oil temperature. Normally the issue is high oil temperature but our cars dont have a gauge for it.

I have front and rear sway bars as well as lowering springs.

I was using the JB4 tool that connected to the OBD2 and displayed data on the phone app. No errors showed on the day but I found that the max PSI lowered after hitting a coolant temp around 235F. Oil temps were stable as well.

When the coolant is over 235F the CPU lowers the max Boost pressure to reduce power output.

Sounds like the JCW variant may be more 'street' tuned than 'track' tuned with the overheating issue...seriously. The design isn't intended for prolonged 'happy pedal' application, more for zipping around on the streets with sufficient time between events to shed thermal load. Seems the Z06 Corvette folks ran into similar issues on the track, which requires quite a bit of work to work out.

I wonder if you detune it a bit (i.e.- slightly lower boost) that you could have longer time between power reductions? I know that sounds counter productive, but it would be a potential option till you can improve the thermal efficiency of the unit. I know I didn't run into any thermal issues with my track day, which consisted of (6) 20-minute sessions around a 3.56 mile road course. Now, my tires and brakes certainly limited me a bit on the top-end of speed and depth of braking, but I wasn't puttering around either. I showed an average of 10 mpg out on track as proof of using my right pedal heavily. Of course my lower HP capability also reduces total thermal load as well. Enough rambling, go have some fun and figure out your next move.

I'm not sure you are wrong, but I'm also not entirely sure you are correct. They are built on the same F-series platform. Where parts don't interchange is more about how much weight they need to bear, I believe. Many parts do interchange with the F55/56/57, such as wishbones and end links. And there are quite a few parts which interchange only with the 1-, 2-, X1- and X2-series (and the MINI F60), such as control arms, bearings, trailing arms, and cross braces. These are all cases where the vehicles are heavier and require stronger parts.

The springs and shocks mostly do not interchange across models (e.g. this rear shock). They do fit, but they are designed to deal with different weights; the spring rates and shock valving varies per car because that's a fairly inexpensive and easy thing to do (vs entire subframe and cross brace designs).

Anyway, neat thread, lots of good info. OP, enjoy your track time!

I realized BMW has UKL1 (F56) and UKL2 (F54, X1 and X2) so the interchangeability is not straight forward. It is something I am always double checking in order to avoid mistakes. For example just found out Tire Rack listed a H&R coilover which actually doesnt fit F54 but F56 ... found it out when cross checking on H&R.
Still have 6 months to learn about this platform before I hit the track in April/May 2022. Fun project .... but still need to be streetable.
