Does anyone know the correct rear differential fluid for the F54 S ALL4?

RealOEM shows
“Hypoid axle oil G3” 83222413512
It also mentions the rear diff is “Rear-wheel drive without hang on clutch” Whatever the “hang-on clutch” is??


The TIS shows the F54 uses BMW HOK Oil, or Hang on clutch oil. 83 22 2 413 513

HOK oil appears to be some sort of Haldex system fluid.

 

I got under the car and it appears there’s two reservoirs for fluid. A standard differential fill plug, then on the left side of the AWD unit, another small fill plug. That must be what uses the HOC fluid.

#9 is the “tank” cover which uses sealant to seal to the AWD unit. #12 is the fill plug.

Looks like you found your answer already. Our cars use an electronically controlled 'wet' clutch center diff for front/rear torque distribution that is co-located in the rear differential housing, but obviously segregated from a fluid standpoint. I thought that was interesting when I discovered the setup, compared to my former Subaru.
