key fob program

Hi all. Just bought a 17 Clubby a couple weeks ago and had to get a new 2nd key fob. I was wondering if anyone had a link to a youtube video or some instructions of some sort on how to program it?

As long as you bought it from a MINI dealer not off some website follow these instructions.

On the passenger side of the steering column there is a key symbol. Put the back side of the key fob next to the key symbol and start the car as you normally do. It may take a few extra seconds while it syncs to the car then it will start.

Do NOT have your other key that works near your car while following this procedure as it can pickup the other remote.

If you bought the key from some internet website you wasted your money and it won't work and the dealer can't help you.

This worked perfectly

I just purchased a used 2019 Clubman All4 that came with 2 FOB's. One of the FOB's did not work and I researched Youtube and other forums for a working solution on reprogramming it. Not even the service department at the nearest Mini dealership could help me out. This method worked perfectly. Thanks so much for the easy-to-understand and working fix.

I’m unclear on something. If you can’t have the key fob that is properly programmed near the car when you put the unprogrammed fob next to the steering column, how does the car start?

It sounds like an awesome solution I’d love to know how to use when I need it.

There's a sensor on the steering column that picks up the key even if the battery in the fob is dead (or dying? Not sure if it works if it's completely dead, but I think so).

UPDATE 09/18/2023:

I am on the exact same situation as the OP: bought a used Clubman F54 that came with only one key fob. The dealer ordered and mailed me a spare.

I followed the instructions above. However, the system did not detect the new key fob and refused to start. It did pick up the signal on the second attempt, though. The new key is now activated.

Just a heads up that if it doesn't work on first try, give it another try. The car will eventually detect the key fob and pair itself to it.
