Help! Problem with Xenon headlights..

Help! I have a 2003 MCS, about a week ago my wife told me that my passenger side xenon headlight was not working. I swapped the bulbs from driver side to passenger side and both of them worked. I thought the problem was solved, this morning I was driving to work and I noticed the passenger side xenon was not working. I turned them on and off a couple of times and it did not turn on.

Does anyone have any ideas what is wrong? Or what I should look at?

Thanks for the help.

Brad

Having a xenon light periodically not working is a common symptom of the xenon ignitor unit going bad; hopefully your 03' is still under warranty or else it might be pretty expensive to fix. I believe on a previous thread someone mentioned $300-500 at a dealer.

I would recommend going to the dealer, the xenon units have a lot of voltage going through there, you don't want to zap yourself looking at it.

Did you get the wiring harness that connects right to the battery? it allows more voltage to get to the bulbs. I have wiring pictures if you need or have the harness...

That sounds like a fix I would be interested in. Would you mind posting it for all to see, if possible.

Thanks.

I'm with MINI USA. I've passed this message on to a MINI National Customer Relations Representative who will be in touch with you soon.

Sorry to hear about the problem, it is very frustrating.

I switched bulbs from side to side, it worked for a while but the passenger side went out again. So I switched the ballasts from side to side and everything has worked since then. That was 7 to 10 days ago and I have driven the car everyday with the lights on and they have worked everytime.

If nothing else try that and maybe it will help to trouble shoot the bad component, they are all so expensive, that if I am going to buy a part I want to buy the correct part the first time.

If you try this, make sure to disconnect the negative cable from the battery.

Goodluck and let me know if this helps you.
