Electrical JL Audio XR650 - do they fit?

JL Audio XR650 - do they fit?

Hi everyone... I have a set of JL Audio XR650-CSi woofers and tweeters that I want to install in my GP. I just replaced the headunit using Crutchfield's Master sheets and that was super easy. With the headunit, I purchased the speaker adapter wires as well as the mounting brackets. Problem is - the mounting brackets don't fit properly around the woofers. Do the XR650's just fit without the mounting brackets? I'd love to know before I pull off my doors!

If the brackets are like the ones I bought from NewMINIstuff for GBMINI#2 and GBMINI#3, I believe you have to drill one or two holes to mount them to the door. But I'm sure the new speakers won't fit without them - the stock speakers have a sort of built-in adaptor to give them clearance:

(this is H/K speaker but non-HK is the same construction)

Without that extra depth, the speaker would probably hit the window glass, and anyway would probably be too big to go in the hole in the door:

thank you so much for your reply... it was super helpful.

my problem is that the speakers i have dont even come close to fitting into the adapters sent by crutchfield. they fit but the holes dont line up with any of the plastic to do any drilling.

ill have to check out NewMINIstuff and see if their adapters are different.
