Air Bag Warning Light

I just changed out my steering wheel and after the install I gave the car a test spin and noticed that the air bag warning light was on. Does a code need to be reset or did I not plug something in correctly. There is a green plug and a black plug that go into the back of the horn/air bag. I thought I pluged them back in the right spots. All other functions work ie: radio, cruiz, horn. HELP !

This can happen under many different situation when working on the electrical system. To prevent it from happening you should completely disconnect the battery when working on anything related to the electrical system.

The light will need to be reset by a dealer. It is my understanding from searching the different threads here on NAM about this issue, is that it is not a standard OBDII code that a generic code reader can reset.

Don't feel bad it has happened to many of us. If your MINI is under warranty they will likely reset without even asking any questions.

Cheers-
Randy

Thank you for the response. Yep, went to the dealer this morning and they reset it for free. I think when I was re checking my install I didn't re disconnect the battery. My first clue was hearing the horn blow when I popped the horn/airbag back on .

Glad you're back to running with no light again.

I never understood how the airbag switching system works in my 2005. I start the car and the light blinks a couple of times, then goes out. Is this correct, or is it supposed to stay on all the time until someone over a certain weight sits in the seat?
