Additional Fog Lights wiring question

I already have the Fog light Mod complete with switch etc. on my 2003 MCS
What I want to do is to mount a further 2 lights low down and have them come on when I select the Fog light switch. They would be lighting up the immediate area in front of the car and would be directed low so as not to blind other drivers.

The wiring kit came with a relay and a separate switch.

All instructions that I've seen so far have treated extra lamps as driving lights, not dedicated additional fogs.

Help ... how do I wire them in to operate independantly of the head lamps, but controllable through the fog light toggle switch???????

ALSO

Why can the new lights not be mounted onto the bumper direct through the bumper cover?

Paul (electrical numskull)

I'm no electronics wiz, but I don't think one can do what you want to do. The toggle rack just tells the BC1 what you want it to do. Because the BC1 won't send power to the fog lights unless the headlights are on, I doubt you'd be able to get the fog toggle to activate lights without the headlights on.
One possible exception would be to talk to Ian Cull (GBMINI) about a custom auto-up circuit that would translate that signal into turning on your auxillary fogs. Programming might be an issue though - if the aux fogs are on, and you turn on the headlights, how do you turn on the main fog lights with the same switch? He may be able to come up with some solution.

Dont get to overwhemled, its not that bad but it will take some work. All you have to do is run the signal from the fogs to the relay, and just put the swtich between it. Then run the load from your 12v main (on a fuseable link) and they'll come on any thim the fogs are on. As for mount dfiretly to the cover, it can be done. The only problem is its going to be very diffult to mount the corretly to make sure the ight dont fall off. I you mount it through a support or renforcement you;ll have a much better mount.

Motor ON!

I WANT the headlights to be on .... Obviously I wasn't clear.
All I want is to be able to switch on my additional lights as well as my driving lights. All this time I would expect my normal headlights to be on.

Surely, if I mount the new fogs directly onto the metallic bumper frame going through the bumper cover, they will be MORE secure than using a mount thru the grill?

Ah, got it. Same issue, I believe, as the BC1 cuts power to the fogs when the the high beams are on - assuming your driving lights are (correctly) wired to come on only with high beams. I still think GBMINI is your best bet - he should know if it can be done, anyway. Good luck, and let us know what happens.

Yes mounting diretly to the renfocement is fine, i dont see any reason why you couldn't do that. The manufacture doesn't want you to comprimsie the integrity of the bumper, so they can cover their hind quarters.

The integrity of the bumper should not be compromised anyway, as I intend to pick up on existing holes ... plus I'm now out of warranty and into a modder's paradise.

Take a look in my sig for my install of FF200 fog lights on Out Motoring brackets. I believe I have them set up like you want yours...they turn on when the factory fog light switch is turned on.

What I did was to tap the turn-on lead for the Hella's into the power lead for the OEM fogs. Then, just always leave the Hella switch in the 'armed' position so whenever the turn-on lead detects power going to the OEM fogs, it turns the FF200's on as well. I've been running it like this for almost a year with no issues.
