Stereo Wire Terminal Removal Help!

Edit2: I got it working! While reviewing the instructions in my home office (AKA bathroom) I realized the following: The white 12 pin connector of the iPod interface REPLACES the existing plug. Pondering what I did during the week this made sense since the white connector only fits on that side. I don't know why I tried to hook both connectors up.
Summary if you have a '05 or later, this can be done in less than 15 minutes without splicing. Use information from both the old and gen 2 instructions on minimania uk and you can figure it out. It's so easy, a caveman could do it.

Edit: Second Help(ing) Question. I followed the directions to a T, including disconnecting the negative terminal any time I was disconnecting wires, I've double checked that everything is hooked up properly and I'm getting no sound form the iPod Mini. The head unit detects the playlists and the iPod is displaying that it's connected, goes into pause when I'm other modes, is getting charged, etc. Need to try it with another iPod first but I'm thinking the kit has a defect. Also, my frikin check seat airbag light is stuck on. How'd did that happen? I'm guessing I need to go to the dealer to have it reset right? Any other ideas would be appreciated.

I'm DIYing the iPod install and can't get the wire terminals to release from the radio wire harness. They have a little safety catch.

Install manual says I need a AMP terminal removal tool like this:
http://ecommas.tycoelectronics.com/c...408-7113_O.pdf

Any typical local store besides Radio Shack that might have these or any alternate means to detach these wires?

Head unit removal took 2 minutes, this is a pain in the ****.

I use a pin or a small screwdriver to get them out of the housings.

I got it with some small tweezers. For anyone else who hits this thread. You just have to depress the appropriate taper on the BOTTOM and pull the top with some mild tension. I was trying to go in from the wire side but looking at them closely, the "catch" in easily accessed from the bottom of the housing.

Further hint look at the install kit's terminals to see the design.
Thanks NSRNWC.

We had one of the pin extractor tools at Penn State when I worked on their Formula SAE team. AMP (Tyco Electronics) was a great sponsor, each year giving us all the tools, pins, connectors, wires, etc. we needed to wire a car.

I wouldn't suggest going after the extractor tool unless you can't get the pins extracted by any alternate means. As I recall, the list price for it was something in excess of $100.
