which small battery?

ok,this may sound strange but hear me out!

i'm looking to save some weight on my 05 MCS by swapping out the battery for a smaller, lighter unit that i've seen others use.
my question is,which other brands and models will work on the mini other than those advertised by some of the mini vendors? the reason i ask is i have a $100 credit at the local motorcycle/watercraft dealership and since i no longer own a streetbike,i was hoping to use it towards the mini.can't think of too many other things i could get at a bike store for the mini!
does anybody have any cross references for suitable batteries or enough electrical knowledge to tell me the spec.i need to look for?
thanks in advance,
pip.

You won't be able to use your credit, but its a start.

I just bought a Deka battery off of Ebay. I know the VW guys run the EXT14 version @ 11lbs. I know of a few Mini guys who run this and have had mix feelings about the longevity of that model. Other Mini guys run the EXT20L @ 15lbs and have had no problems with it. Since I am in it for the weight I went with the EXT14. If it dies...it dies. I will keep my old battery around. Can't beat the price. $64 shipped. You will also need terminals ( http://www.batterymart.com/battery.mv?p=ODY-3217-0006 ). They run about $15 shipped.
