Here is the final install pictures. It took a bit of experimenting with the optima mounting kit. Some grinding and finally a secure battery using the oem hold down.

Thanks for the images...what kind of grinding did you have to do specifically? It fit looks very OEM

My boy is 1/2 pure Chinese (from me) and the other half is Hines 57 (wife)

I had to grind the clips off the Ford adapters and I had to grind, using a dremel tool, the radii to match the outside cylinders of the battery. If you get the Group 78 version of the Optima Batts (800CCA versions), these adapters will fit because they are made for them. I was thinking that I should have bought the 800CCA, but I was not sure it would fit. After remeasuring, I think the 800CCA would fit.

Is the 800CCA bigger than OEM? Does Autozone carry this one too? Thanks

They do. Look at the optima website. They should have dimensions. The height dimension includes the posts.

Here is the link:

If you have a Batteries plus they off them too at a slightly higher price, but they sure know what they are talking about. Plus they have the universal optima adapter brackets like I mentioned.

Just to double check...the correct part number for this is SC34U?

SC34U is for the 78 series for the bigger Red Top. This is not a deep cycle batt. If you run a big stereo and such, get the Yellow Top Deep Cycle. From the chart, it should be the one with part numbers SC51DA or SC51RDA.

Otherwise you might be able to fit the commercial grade SC75DU. This will be a yellow top I would assume.

The one I used was a SC75U Red Top. This is a common batt at ordinary autoparts stores.

Sid,
Measure your OE batt and include the height of the terminals post. That is how optima measures for height.

Why not coat the battery compartment with a layer of the spray in truck bed liner?

Why coat it? It's rarely seen? Unless I am missing something.

The coating might help prevent damage by spilled electrolyte, but in the case of batteries such as the Optima or Braille, there is no free liquid electrolyte to spill. These are AGM (absorbed glass mat) batteries that have all their electrolyte 'soaked into' the plate separators like a sponge. The stock battery uses a conventional liquid electrolyte, but the vent has a tube attached to it and exits outside of the car.

That makes sense. I forgot about why, but since I got a ge batt I was not worried about spillage. has anyone tried to do a quick disconnect? I bought one thinking I could fit it but it make the terminal too tall and I could not close the top cover of the boot.

Hey Carl...cute picture

Got the Odyssy Yellow Top installed last night and jammed away in the garage I accidentally left power on to a bank of gauges all night and found the battery was still in the high 12v this morning

I didn't have to modify anything other than the factory bracket was notched 3/4" higher for the taller OEM battery so I put in a hard foam spacer between the bracket and the top of the new battery...thanks for all your inputs

Aloha,

Please, if you can post the costco number that would help. My battery is dead and the car has low miles so no dealer help.
