Do I need to remove auto-up?

Ok, long story. I went to driving school this weekend. At the end of day 2 my ABS and tire light came on. The tire light came on first, but I asked my mechanic, who was there at driving school and he said not to worry about it since I took off the stock wheels and run flats.
Then the ABS light came on when I was leaving to go back to the hotel. Also, the DSC light is now staying on and I when I flip the toggle nothing changes. I had this exact issue back in December. It was fixed under warranty, ticket says - Left rear wheel speed sensor faulty, replace and clear fault memory.
I am also getting the same ticking in the general area of the steering column, just like last time.
The car is going in on Wednesday for service, should I remove the Auto up/DSC module before it goes in? Will this even be noticed and if so, is it something the dealer will have issues with? I know the module has nothing to do with the problem, since I had the problem back in December before I put the module on.

I don't have an answer for you.

But, where can I get more info on the auto up/DSC module, and can it also be used for the fog light switch that functions similarly?

I would remove the circuit before it goes to the dealer. Just to make their troubleshooting easier. I wouldn't want them to get in there and complain of some unknown add-on and cry foul.

you're talking about the aftermarket passenger window auto-up correct?

i am almost certain that it doesnt have anything to do with the DSC. I have one and got in an accident and the top clip got jolted out. We didnt know what was wrong- the body shop had no clue.

The symptoms of my "unworking" chip were:
- Driver window would only go up/down if you held down the lock button.
- The lock button did nothing
- The DSC worked just fine
- The passenger window did not work at all
- None of the fog lights worked
- The little lights above the switches on the panel did not light up with the headlights on

Hope that helps. Its not too hard to remove, so you might want to remove it before taking it to the dealer...
Good luck

Annette it's not hard to remove. I suggest doing it just so you don't have them blame your harmless mod on your problems.

Her circuit has the DSC turn off ability in addition to the auto up.

Yep, I think I'll take it off tomorrow before I head down there. Like you guys, I'm positive it has nothing to do with my issues with the ABS/DSC/tire lights, but they probably would like to blame it for whatever. Hey, I could use a little practice taking the toggle board out again anyway
I'm also going to forget that I took it to Driver's School this weekend, too

MDSbrain's advice is the exact same advice I give when someone asks.

Yes, we know the problem is a wheel sensor or something like that. My dealership, MINI of Peabody, would not have any issue with my auto-up circuit. But not all dealerships are so friendly. Some even try to find a reason to refuse warranty - and the circuit might just be such an excuse for them.

It's much easier to remove it first, than to risk a big argument with a stupid dealership (although hopefully, BoCRon, your dealership isn't stupid).

One of the local MINIs had exactly the same problem about 10 days ago and he doesn't have an auto-up circuit. It turned out to be a problem with a faulty wheel speed sensor which lit up both the DSC and ABS lights. Unfortunately, the owner of the MINI was being cautious (and rightfully so) and had to cancel out of an AX class since the problem popped up 5 miles away from the class on a Saturday - 70 miles from the dealer. On Monday the dealer replaced the sensor and problem was solved. His SA said it was perfectly fine to drive the car with that condition.

Hehe, the German dealer here in Mannheim loved your circuit Ian. Had no problems with it being installed. However, stateside dealer are much more sensitive on this. My advise would also be to remove it.

I was lucky that my "authorized MINI service guy" was there at Driving School. While he couldn't repair the problem there, he did say it was fine to drive. Since missing Sunday on the track would have really bummed me out, I was glad to hear it. I did have my instructor drive the car on the first session to be sure, when he deemed it safe I went ahead. I think it actually taught me more about how the car should feel. The ABS would kick in almost immediately, which never having experienced prior to this weekend, would have probably panicked me. After the car warmed up, it would react a bit more predictably. I have complete confidence in El Kabong now!
