ElectricalFor discussions regarding wiring up electrical modifications such as radar detectors, brake light mods, power sockets, and driving lights in Cooper (R50), Cabrio (R52), and Cooper S (R53) MINIs.
I turned my driving lights on last night and they didn't come on. I checked the fuse and it was blown. I replaced it today and it immediately blew. I installed them myself about 3-4 weeks ago and haven't had any trouble until now. What are some things I should look for to fix the problem? The only thing I can think of and will check first is maybe a hot lead inside one of the lights is making contact with ground through the light housing. I didn't cover the connectors with tape or shrink tubing so one might have come disconnected and is touching the housing. Any other ideas? They're the OEM Mini lights btw.
That's a good place to start looking. Also check the wiring back to the switch. It may have chaffed causing it to go to ground. Did you use a grommet were you pulled the wire through the firewall?
Probably the one in the little fuseholder added to the area in front of the driver's side cowl vent. This fuse holder is typically loose and flops around everywhere in this little compartment.
All right, just checked it out. And darn, it was good, and I checked all the wiring out with my multi-tester, all ok. I winder if it could be the switch?
Does the switch light up? Do the lights even flicker when you hit the switch? Sometimes I have to press mine a few times before the lights will come on. It's a pretty cheap switch. I'd check the switch with your meter.
