Chirp without alarm system?

My 05 MCS doesn't have an alarm system and I don't want one, but I would like to have the chirp so I know when the doors lock and unlock without staring at the car to see the lights blink. Does anyone know of a way to add the chirp without installing a full alarm system?

Excellent question. I'm sure someone will know some way!

The "Chirp" come from the alarm. No other factory way to make this happen, sorry. I would not be without my alarm as I have already had two attempts at either breaking in or stealing my MCS! The Alarm saved me a ton of headaches! A worthwhile investment.

Hmmm... I live in Iowa - the Mini is more of an oddity to most folks around here. They haven't thought about trying to steal one yet. I'm not giving up easily. I wonder if you can install the chirp part of the factory system.

you can get the siren for about $150.. it just plugs in and you just have to get the dealership to activate the alarm and you'll have the chirp.. I didn't get it when I ordered the car, but just got it installed .. you just don't get the red flashing light or the interior motion sensor.... I love the chirp

In the E46s people figured out a way to program the alarm light to flash without installing the alarm, however it turned out to cause weird issues for many after the fact. The mini doesn't have the light built in anyway, so you'd have to buy that - the sound for the chirp comes from the alarm itself so I don't see how you could make that happen without the alarm itself along with the programming...

My Ford Escape doesn't have an alarm, but the car horn itself reports on remote locking. Maybe that circuit could be designed for a Mini...sounds like a new project for Auto-Up Ian.

djbohne... I'm getting excited now. Where exactly can I purchase the siren - and by siren do you mean the chirp that comes with the factory alarm?

You should be able to get it from any dealer. Classic MINI in Ohio has the best deals - 20% off for NAM members.

The chirp comes from the siren - the unit contains the alarm, tilt sensor and chirp.
