Knew that, but i don't want to have my laptop in my car to do data logging. A nice Palm or PPC would be perfect for that. I'm not saying those systems are better than Bim Com i'm saying Bim Com would be an even better "killer app" if it also included PPC or Palm functionality with live data logging/viewing.

No argument there.

There's a company in England that makes a Bluetooth OBD-II interface. That to a Bluetooth PDA logger would be real nice, no cables!

But it aint cheap....

Yea but then it doesn't also have the functionality of BIM COM, i'm trying to convince RossTech that we want both in ONE! Convergence!

I think we are all waiting and really want to get the software. Just seems like it's going to be another year

Functionality vs. fashion or convenience

The appeal of a smaller device for recording/playback seems obvious... highly portable, doesn’t take up much space, easily affixed to an in-car mount -where it won't move while driving.

However, when it comes to effectively viewing data – esp. in graphical format a Palm-type device (screen size & interface) is impractical.

Not just an enthusiast product:
Ross-tech appears poised to market Bim-Com well beyond the confines of the enthusiast market. Look no further than their Vag-Com product’s positioning. It appeals to professional tuners/shops used to working with sophisticated scan-tools.

A tuner/shop will want to use what they already have… Which device is the industry standard?

So... while I’m sure even the guys at Ross-tech appreciate what you're saying, I suspect Palm functionality might be somewhere near the very bottom of the priority list. This is just an opinion… I could be totally out-to-lunch.

I sure hope its not another year coming though.

Man its funny how hard this is to get accross, i'm doing something wrong in explaining my intentions.

It would still have full laptop functionality, but maybe they could make a seperate Palm/PPC functionality that would also work with the Scan tool software. But i guess i'll just have to spend that money else were.

I'd go with someone elses more generic stuff.

There are so many out there. If you want quick and cheap, go with Lap Logger, and you can get a freeware OBD-II software that supports more variables, but you get the ELM chip interface OBD-II cable and crappy SW (well it was when I bought it, but it's been upgraded) for like $75 or so. I think it's www.laplogger.com. Both windows and palm (pocket PC too, I think)

Do some googling...

Matt
Just checked. It's $60, windows, pocket PC, and palm. Resets CEL lights too. For $60, it's a steal. But the cable won't work with stuff like Auterra, AutoEnginuity etc.
