Factory Alarm Install...

Well since the alarm install looks like it's not that hard I am thinking about installing the bugger myself. Anyone know if it has to be programmed to work? Ie, can I install it and use it for like a few weeks before I make the pillgramige back to the dealer to have the ecu programmed to accept it?

Or does anyone know if the BMW dealer can activate the alarm. Or is the computer different somehow?

Any major differences in the install from an 05 to 06?

Yes it will have to go to a MINI chassis computer to be recognized and function properly. I doubt that you will find a dealer who will do it for free.

My bmw dealer would do it for free, but doubt there computer would read it for free.

Guess I will have to make the journey down south after the install . Another excuse to go motoring when I come back

No offense to the ladies of NAM

I am beginning to feel like every trip to the MINI dealer is like going to a Nevada Brothel. Nothing is free at the MINI dealer.

Or did I just pay $21K for weekly carwashes and a can of pepsi?

Why would you think that? I have the factory alarm and it's great. No dangling remote to deal with. One touch operation from the factory key. Sensors all over. Nice big red flashing deterrent on the turn signal stalk. Fully warranted. Works for me...

Deterence and piece of mind. Car theft is a fact of life. Besides, with my 5% insurance discount, it'll pay for itself over time. Also, another resale feature when that time comes. Need more?

Hmm. Did you go watch the trunkmonkey videos since your giving a serious response. If not, go watch them, they are cool. it was a humerous response. Mayby you didnt get it

But, if you want to be serious ...

There is not ONE, not ONE documented case of a MINI being stolen without a key.

If you can find one, plz let every one know

AMEN Brother Stevie B! PREACH ON! That is exactily why I wanted the factory setup. And since it is installed before I take delivery, it's warranted with the car!
