Wiring a boost gauge

I've searched and come up with a couple different answers to do this. Some have said theres a bundle of wires under the steering column and you can tap into that and find the one that powers the tach lights. The other method was through the cigarette lighter lights. I was wondering how to do that method, as I was not able to find a clear answer.

And the Answer is?

I'm with you - installing boost gauge into 2005 MCS and searching for the correct fuse to tap into for dimming the instrument lighting. I have searched behind the fuse box and came up with nada..... I would prefer to access via the fuse box rather than splice into an existing wire anyway.

Will someone who has successfully done this please advise what fuse to tap into inside the driver kick panel fuse box?

Thanks ~

right to the right of the fuse box there is a bundle of wires...

there is a grey/red striped wire right on the outside.

tap your hot into that and ground it onto the dash somewhere. its the cleanest way to do it and they fade in and out with the regular lights.

I'd prefer to use a "LITTELFUSE ADD-A-CIRCUIT FUSEHOLDER" as I've used them before and have an extra already on-hand. Pretty handy device from Parts Express. Here's a link to the device:

Any idea which fuse the wire feeds? Thanks for your help ~

a fuse wont dim nor will it turn on and off with your lights switch.

all the switching and dimming is dont farther down the line, all your gonna get with an add a circuit is a light that will turn on and off with the car.

add a circuits are a joke, id never use one again after my bad experience with one while wiring my stereo. never made proper contacs, a waste of 6 dollars.

just tap the wire, theres no harm to be done.

Thanks for the feedback. I was beginning to think I was going crazy - will take another look tomorrow.... I 've had great luck with the add-a-fuse, but must confess I always cut / solder the joint - no crimps for me.

Thanks again ~

well, i wouldnt be doing any cutting and soldering on the wiring harness. these cars are a wiring nightmare already.

just a quiktap will be good, they are nice and secure, besides, you will probably never touch it again. give it a good taping with some electrical tape, and it will be fine.

If I'm going to solder primary wires to the wires they provide with the gauge (that are about 6 inches long at best) do I need a specific kind of solder or does it work all the same. I only have one kind left that I used to solder new pickups into my guitar, so I'm assuming that will work fine?

I went down to the fuse box area. removed plastic around fuse area - large bundle of wires in front of fuse panel - inside two sets of wires that are grey w/ pink strip. One of them is the dash lights. I found this location and easy work area for me.

ps - no I did not pick the wire correctly the first time.
