Prolly something else offered to the our sister cars in europe and such...as we Emericans are far too stupid to handle something like that...you know like leaving the car in gear and trying to start it ...LOL
I thought it was pretty neat as well. I did a quick search on MINI 2 and didnt see anything mentioned of it yet. I would be curous to find out how it works and if it is available to us here in the US. I would certianly be interested in it for my new MINI.
Well here it is over at MINI2 http://www.mini2.com/forum/showthread.php?t=99490
Would love to see a copy of the install instructions to see how they make this mod work.

I did a search eariler and couldnt turn anything up sounds neat. I was wondering then if the key has to still be in the ignition for the car to recognize it before starting. Any ideas?

The classic mini's had the starter button on the floor between the seats. You'd turn the key then hold the starter button down to crank the engine. When she fired you'd release the button, find a gear and scoot. Finding a gear was the hardest part with the "wonder" wand shifter. You'd always wonder what gear, if any, you found!

dont evert trust anything from moss thats dependant on your car running everyday!
check out Summit, they have lots of race car parts. probably just run a jumper from the ignition so that when you put your key in and turn it to run, then push the start button, it will trigger the starter.

Anyone think this would work as a start button?:

It's a lot cheaper than the ~$60 ones from Moss.

of you hooked it up right it would probably work, but would you have the red engine start bling factor? I'd like to see some of the stock ones make it over to the US, MINI culture is bigger here but we keep getting the shaft with all the cool accessories.
Lots of aftermarket start button installs rely on the start button from the Honda S2000. You might want to check that out too.
I had a 1967 Volkswagen that had a bad ignition, so we just installed a starter button up under the dashboard. You needed to turn the key to the run position. I credit the hidden starter button with preventing the car from being stolen after it was broken into (a different car in the lot got stolen that night!).

i test drove a prius for my wife a few weeks ago and you did not have to have the key in the ignition - just within the car (it was kind of hard to understand the dealer's accent but i think this is what he said). Just a button on the dash to turn it on and off.
I felt like i was turning on my tv or something like that - i would rather turn the key (especially if you have to have the key in the ignition with this one).
