RPM source for RPM sensitive lighting

OK, so I got my 05 Cooper S. Now I want to do things to it! Besides the SC pulley, Alta cold air intake, etc. etc. I want to install under-vehicle lighting (StreetGlow) which has the option of RPM sensitivity; higher RPM means brighter glow. Problem, you can't get the RPM signal from the coil cause there's not one. Has someone else tackled this before or am I possibly having an original thought .

What do you mean theres not one there are two
one for each pair of cylinders but the signals are not very clean so you will need a filter if you want to go that route or else tap a cable at the ECU for one of the injectors if you want a cleaner RPM signal

RPM signal source

Thanks for your feed back, Prof. You're correct; there is a coil pack. You mention filtering the signal. Just how is this accomplished? Is this an aftermarket item? Tapping the ECU as a source leaves me concerned about the potential to cook the ECU or degrade the performance of the downstream component. anyhow thanks for your response.

yeah I tried searching all the vendors but no luck, I know one of them sells a filter that connects to the coil pack and gives you a nice clean signal for use with a shiftlight, this would work perfectly if I could only remember who sells it,

RPM Sensitive Lighting

Thanks for the tip, Prof. OK, in a JEGS catalog I found an item referred to as a "tach adapter". Says you can connect a tach, shift lite, or RPM switch to a DIS system. What's a DIS system? Also says this adapter converts information into a 12V square-wave signal and wires easily inlineon the coil positive 12V wire. Unit is made by AutoMeter. Is this what you're talking about? If so, I quess a volt-ohm meter is all I need to find this 12V wire feeding the coil pack. What do you think?

I thought Pilo had one, but I can't find it on their website. I thought it was cheaper than the MSD item also.
