Question:
Can an (early) R50 2wo plug fan be rewired into/for an R53 one plug fan and be made to work?

Many years ago before I really knew a lot about Mini's (e.g: the difference between an R50 & an R53); I'd purchased a brand new radiator fan as a (future) pre-emptive measure.
It's been sitting in it's box (7years), still sealed in theromo-wrap. While doing a little parts arranging today, I'd noticed the part # on the box: Dorman pt# 620-902. It is a 2wo plug. I have an '04 R53 w/ a one plug.

Can the wiring mod be done or just waste time?

If you remove the relay from the assembly you'll be able to make it work. I can't give specific instructions but you'll just want to rewire it the same as a one plug fan. The motor and resistor are the same.

 

Ah - I wish someone would have responded sooner.
I recently gave away the (brand new), R50 (2wo plug) fan assembly away to a stranger I'd met with a 2003 R50.
But, Hey - If it wouldn't be too much trouble if you could post the procedure for others - That would be great!
