Electrical Can someone check a coding value for me in NCS Expert or Protools?
ElectricalFor discussions regarding wiring up electrical modifications such as radar detectors, brake light mods, power sockets, and driving lights in Clubman (R55), Cooper and Cooper S (R56), and Cabrio (R57) MINIs.
Can someone check a coding value for me in NCS Expert or Protools?
2012 MCS with the standard stereo system. I am trying to remove the low frequency speaker cutoff using Protools by switching the cutoff coding from "Standard" to "Hifi". In the RAD2 radio module, there are frequency limiters for each of the four speakers. All but the right rear (LIMITER_R_L_B) can be coded fine in ProTool.
For the right rear I am trying to code it as Hifi. However, the data string for Hifi is the same as for Standard (03F000AE) so this has no effect, and after I code it it always goes back to Standard. For the other three radio channels the data for Standard and HiFi are different and they stay set to Hifi. Seems like there's possibly a bug in whatever version of RAD2 module I've got on the car?
Unfortunately the codes are different for each speaker, so I can’t just copy the code from another speaker and input it as a custom value. If anyone can check on their car to see if they have something different in this module and what the code is for LIMITER_R_L_B for Hifi I would greatly appreciate it.
I think that might be true on the earlier R56 cars? But on my 2012 I didn't see an option in VEHICLE_FILTERS for Hifi. There were a bunch of car models in there but nothing specifically for Mini Hifi, there were a bunch of Mini models but none of them said Hifi, the only option for R56 was something like "R56 Stereo".
Here's what I'm talking about. First picture shows the VEHICLE_FILTER options, there's no way to set Hifi here for any of the Mini models. The only other option for R56 is the GP2 (which doesn't have rear speakers).
Second picture shows the LIMITER settings for each speaker, this is where you can set Hifi. You can see I was able to change them all to Hifi except for rear left.
Third picture shows the settings in rear left, the standard data key and the hifi one are the same. So even if you change it to Hifi it seems to always show standard.
Tomorrow I should be at my car, again.
I can check what Value is saved and post a screenshot of it here.
Edit:
I checked it via Bimmercode, unfortunately I dont have access to the VEHICLE_FILTERS, because I have a MULF2 / CCC Radio.
Need to check with Ncsexpert sometimes later.
Update2:
I dont have VEHICLE_FILTERS at all.
I played some test audio files and I don't have the cut off at / below 100hz at the rears at all.
From what I understand the later cars are better but still have the cutoff. I did the channel swap and installed some better speakers in the rear, and it made a noticeable difference: I actually have bass now.
I'm trying to remove the cutoff so I can get more bass out of the front now. I don't have great ears but the coding change I made seemed to help.
I guess my concern with that is that it might change other things that I actually wouldn't want to change, and would cause other problems.
I'll futz around with it this weekend, see what I can figure out. I had NCS Expert working on my old laptop but now I'm trying to get it running on my new one, and that's been an ordeal, lol.
Okay, I'm still playing with NCS Expert, but I used NCS Dummy with the latest daten files and I think I figured it out.
There are multiple RAD modules available. RAD2.Cxx looks like it's for the older cars and is what Trestos is seeing. RAD22.C32 and RAD22.C34 look like they're for the later cars and are what I'm seeing; I assume C32 and C34 are different versions. If I browse thought the limiter settings this is what I see:
In C32 both Standard and Hifi are the same for all four channels. But for C34 they're different for all BUT rear left. So it looks like there's a mistake in the daten file, and they forgot to update Limiter RLB Standard in that version?
The good news for me is that the Hifi values are the same between C32 and C34, so that means that I should be getting the Hifi setting on my car as I set it up above with 030F000AE as the coding. So I think I'm good, lol.
I dont have a 2rad module in my car.
I have the following modules (and not all are codeable...)
2MULF
4BMOT
ABG
CAPPL
CAS
CAUDI
CGATE
CHOST
CID
CTUNE
EPS
FRM
IHKA
KOMBI
PDC
RLS
SHD
SPEG
SZL
With Bimmercode I can access to CAPPL and change from Stereo to Hifi.
I think this help a bit, but I am not sure anymore.
Clubman S
Build Date 12/2007
CCC Navi Professional with all whistles and bells like Bluetooth etc. but no AMP and no Hifi Audio / Speaker (Standard 6 Speakers)
Okay, I think I got this all figured out for the later RAD2 module.
The default setting in RAD22_VEHICLE_FILTERS is r56_stereo. If you open this in NCS Dummy it shows in the notes as "R56+!HIFI_KARDON+!GP2". The "!" means "not", so this is not the setting for HiFi or GP2 cars.
If you scroll down in the list there's a pl3_hifi_branded, which has "R56+HIFI_KARDON" in the description, so that's the one you want. Here's what I did:
RAD22_VEHICLE_FILTERS to pl3_hifi_branded
RAD22_CROSSOVER_B to pl3_hifi_branded
All four LIMITER_x_x_B to hifi
AUDIO_SYSTEM_RAD22 to hifi
With these changes I seem to be getting full bass to all four channels.
Alternatively you might be able to just change to the HiFi code in the VO and then have it write defaults to the RAD2 module? But the above seems to have worked for me.
