Genuine LED Drl kit r56

Hi all,

I'm thinking about buying the mini LED drl kit for my r56 cooper s,
One thing I want to know is how do they work along side my auto xenon lights?

If I put my drl setting on at the minute the dip beam headlights stay on all the time.
So with these fitted can I still leave my xenon lights on auto and the drl be lit up full circle?
And then when it gets dark the lights come on and the drl goes to top half?

Please help

They should operate the same as if you didn't have auto lights. Just that they will automatically change with the headlights coming on and off. I've installed several kits, but we always test them by using the headlights manually since the car is in the building.
I've got them in stock right now if you want a set.

If you wire them as the instructions say then the full ring is only lit when your headlights are not illuminated. If you use the main headlamps in DRL mode through the menus then the whole ring will not light up, only the top section. If the DRLs are off in the menu then you will get the whole ring, even with auto lights as long as the auto lights have not decided to be on. That's how I usually run mine.

It is possible to wire them to a switch instead so that you have control. The wire that comes into the cabin could go to a switched 12v source that comes on with the ignition via a switch and you can have them on or off as you like..I know someone here has wired theirs to the cigarette lighter in the console just for that reason.

Some more info here on the stock set up.

MINI Daytime Running Lights LED 63122338554

http://www.ecstuning.com/Search/SiteSearch/63122338554/

- Key-on engine- running, a bright halo of LED illumination acts as a Daytime Running Light (DRL) for an attractive look and added safety.
- In the parking light position, the light switches from a halo to a projector half moon of light to mark your corners.
- For fog or other low visibility driving, a half moon of projected light and a semicircle halo combine to let you see, and be seen.

Thanks

There are two connectors on one side of the footwell module, and one on the other. You have to tap into a pin on the upper connector. The picture is really misleading, the module is in the car such that the wires hang down into it, not up as it looks in the picture. Once you have the connector off you can see the numbering on the connector shell. I'm colour blind so I didn't know what colour the wire was. I just know I got it wrong the first time...

There is a way to have the full halo on while your headlights are on. It does not harm the OEM install/setup in any way. Stay tuned...

MINI instructions read these The LED daytime running light retrofit is only available for cars with existing front fog lights (SA 520). But then I saw some forum post that read some folks have installed them on MINIs with that have the position/parking light fog. Is this true? I am guessing just need to get the Brackets for the front fog lamps 2 of part # 63129807305. And I guess if I don't get my ECU programmed for fog lights, I just will have 2 options insted of 3, only DRL and Position Lights???? Any one out there know???

I imagine if you just splice the wire for the bottom half of the ring onto the top half you'll get this effect. I just put them is as directed though so idk.

I didn't do this myself, but I think all you have to do is put a two way switch in line with the wire that goes to the footwell module. The common would go to the wire from the DRL control box, one throw goes to the footwell module pin to maintain normal operation, the other throw goes to I think an ignition fed +12V to force always on.

just install the kit on my R56 GP last weekend. i got too busy and didn't have time to do the last step of spicing the wire into the computer in the foot well. But so far actually everything does work. DRL and fog both seem to work normally. So my question is, do we need to do the wire? or just leave it?
