Electrical aux AND ipod interface? one idea...
aux AND ipod interface? one idea...
Has anybody worked out a way to have both an aux port and the ipod interface? (Yes, I am talking gen-1) I still use the iPod interface, but I'd like to be able to plug in my phone (which auto-syncs podcasts, etc).
Here's my thinking: It should be easy to isolate the audio wires between the iPod interface and the head unit, then splice in another audio cable routed to wherever...
Has anybody done this? Audio quality issues? Issues with it turning on?
From what I can see, the factory aux cable is just that... a cable with no other electronics, so the head unit should accept input regardless of whether the ipod interface is active... right?
Any other inexpensive options?
Thanks in advance for any experience you can share.

What do you mean when you say "iPod interface"? The OEM iPod adapter (also many aftermarket units) use the CD changer port, which is independent of the aux port and you can have it connected at the same time as the aux port.
