Power Steering Fan

So I'm changing the fan and after I pull fan bracket, I go to unplug wires. What is the box that the fan wires run to between fan and connector plug? I cut wires between box and fan and put female blade terminals on. Then plugged into new fan leads. Thanks. Brian

Where did you get the fan? What make? Why did you feel the need to cut those wires?

Here is the power steering fan with the bracket / grille.

Here is the power steering fan sold separate from the bracket.

Both versions have the little resistor box on the wire. You should not have to cut the wires either way. Just uninstall the old one and plug the new one in. The little box mounts the bracket also to hold it in place and comes out with a slight turn on the bracket.

Thanks

fuse

I believe that little box is a fuse of some sort. The older fans didn't have it (the original fan on my 12/03 production Cooper S didn't have the box), but anything purchased now comes with the box. I used a zip tie to hook the box onto my older bracket, which works just fine.

I got the fan from A1 electric supply. It had a 4 inch lead with a plastic connector on end. Two male blade terminals. I didn't know what was in the box. I tried to open it. But I didn't want to break it. So I cut off the old fan an put two female terminals on and plugged it in. Dielectric grease and RTV to seal it. Hopefully good to go. Brian.

I have read that some fans that look like they are the same rotate in the wrong direction.
