Can somebody with factory fogs test something for me?

Ok here's what I'm looking for:
Turn on headlights, lowbeam.
Turn on factory fogs, and verify that light at end of factory switch illuminates, which indicates "on".
Turn headlights to highbeam.
Check factory switch illumination.

Looking to see if the high beams cut power to the whole "branch", or just to the lights themselves.

My idea:
I'm installing a retrofit of factory fogs into my R53, already have the switchpack.
What I'd like to do is piggy back to the factory fog harness and have a way to have driving lights as well, yet still switchable.
With switch activated, or "on":
Lowbeam - Fogs are on, driving lights are not.
Highbeam - Driving lights are on, fogs are not.

It's a relatively simple wiring project, but I just needed to know forehand if there is power from the switch to trip the relay to extinguish the fogs, and illuminate the driving lights.

TIA!

The fogs turn off when you turn on the highbeams, but my HIDs stay on when the highbeam is activated. I think you have to pull the stalk all the way, so that you hit the switch. If you just flash them the fogs will stay on.

Agreed. Here's my projected scenario:
If switch is illuminated and low beams, fogs/on driving lights/off.
If switch is illuminated and high beams, driving lights/on fogs/off.
If switch is not illuminated and low beams fogs/off driving lights/off.
If switch is not illuminated and high beams fogs/off driving lights/off.

So, I'm trying to see if the switch will still "operate" even though the high beams are on.

When I owned a Jeep, the more switches the better, had 'em all over the dash and console controlling everything from fogs, off road lights, winch control, on board air, etc etc...

For whatever reason, I'm having ajita with installing other than stock switches in Trillian. HellifIknowwhy...

My switch is not illuminated when the fogs are on and the high beams are on, the car does remember to turn them on when the high beams are turned off again.

The fogs will also turn off when the lights are turned off completely, therefore it is not possible to just run fogs with the factory set up.

I'm fairly certain the switch will not operate w/ the high beams on, I believe the way the factory shuts off the fogs when the high beams are on is by killing power to the switch, not the fogs directly.

The only way to run fogs w/ no lights at all is to wire them through an independant relay & switch tapped into your ignition or battery direct.

There is no "power to the switch". The switch is momentary contact and merely tells the BCM computer that the switch was pressed. The BCM notices when the switch is pressed and decides how to control the relay that operates the fog lamps (highbeams on is a factor).

The illumination on the tip of the fog switch is directly hard wired to the fog lamp itself and indicates when it is on. You can see this in the wiring diagram in the retrofit instructions.

Don't see your scenario working with OEM switches. They are both temporary and will turn off when the car is switched off. The BCM doesn't recognize an 'auxiliary light switch'.

Very good, thanks, prob. still doesn't change anything for the OP unfortunately.
