r56 halogen halogen swap for xenon

i have an r56 09 S

and i want to swap my halogen for the xenon black housing ones, because one of my headlights broke so might as well replace them with the xenon ones.

i have read though the forums but i havent found answers for my questions, which are, is it even possible? and i know its not plug and play but can i get a step by step instructions on how to do it, and exactly what parts do i need to buy?

please help me.

There are several threads about doing this -- I considered it myself. But the number of parts that have to be changed or added generally makes it way too expensive to consider. If I remember right, it was somewhere in the vicinity of $1800 for my car.

You have to remember that xenon lighting systems are not self contained in the headlight unit. There are ballasts to ad, wiring harnesses to adapt, a leveling device to add to the underside of the car, and programming to do to tell the car that it now has xenons.

I truly wish that I could just swap out the housings and have xenons, but its a whole lot more complicated than that. Go to realoem.com and take a look at the parts that you have to have to make it work. Its depressing.

A thread or two already have the parts listed and pictures from realoem. Keep on searching for the info. It is possible but if you were to say just get the housings you could buy an aftermarket HID kit to plug into it (D2S probably). This would mean you only have to buy 2 housings (~$600 each) and a HID kit form your favorite vendor (DDM tuning or the like) and do some wiring and re-pinning of the factory harness and plug.

I just bought a complete retrofit kit form TRS (theretrofitsource.com) and I modded my existing headlights and had bi-xenon projectors (HID) for $3000 and some labor of demeling.
