Possible Solution to Remote Start with C/Access?

So my boss just picked up a '12 IS350, which has proximity remote and keyless push button start, very similar to the comfort/convenience access systems we have on our MINIs.

He asked the dealer if they could install a remote start, and while they said they didn't have anything OEM, they have a partnership with a local business that installs them.

His receipt lists the following:

Firstech Remote Start Module (FT6200SCONT) -$80
Directed Can Modual (DBALL) -$80
Compustar 1 Button Remote Kit (RF1BAM) -$50

Labor costs under 200 and he was out the door for $419.

The way it works as he was explained is they pull a start code from his ECU and copies it onto the remote start module. Its a simple 1 button remote system, where holding it down for 2.5 seconds starts it. It has turbo timer capabilities and other bells and whistles, but is really a minimalist setup. No fancy LCD screen etc, just a simple fob. (http://www.compustar.com/products/cs/RF-1BAM.html)

Anyways, the only catch is he must shut off the car before (either) getting in, or driving away (not sure which, but regardless before leaving after remote starting you must shut off the car and restart it with the key inside the car as if you didn't have the module). This would bother me a bit restarting the car when its still cold, but I could live with it probably.

So, would we think this is plausible for our MINIs? The systems are definitely different, but in theory they are similar. It would be awesome to have a solution for a remote start finally in this car, especially with the rough new england garageless winters for me.

Anyone hear anything about this?

I'm curious to call the store and see if they've done any R56's.

With a CA car you can get a fob that isn't CA activated, but will still work if you place it in the dock. It may be possible to do a remote start with a fob like that where the proximity sensors won't factor into it.
