Charging system issues

Hi-new to this site and of course I found it because I had a dead battery and needed help.
My friend came over and tried to help-but it being a mini....
So, everything was sporatic, windows, lights, etc, then dead. Charged it-ran to staore and back, shut it off. No charge. Acts like a short?? Now reading the posts sounds like an alternator?
New owner, no contacts to get parts or fixed. Can someone get me headed in some sort of directcion?
BP in Milton.

The MINI's DME registers the voltage from the battery and if there isn't enough it won't start. You could even have a full dash board of lighting too.

How old is your battery. 4-5 years in a MINI is about the max average. Even if the battery was recently charged up, it still may not hold that charge for very long.
