Lamp wiring question

I am horrible at electrics.

I have wired in an IPF set of lamps. Instead of hooking what I think is the power wire from the switch to the high beams, to work only when I flash, I want them to work independently.

Does anyone know? Do I wire this fused line directly to a power source? The lamps themselves, of course, are wired to power.

I presume you're using a relay in the circuit. If so, you'll need a power source to run thru your switch to trigger the relay. My recommendation would be to find a power source inside the car that's only hot when the ignition is on (like the cigarette lighter) otherwise you run the risk of accidentally leaving your lights on and draining your battery. Using power from the high beams is the preferred method to trigger the relay. If you wire it independently, you'll have to manually turn off your driving lights every time you dim your lights for oncoming traffic. Also, it sounds as if you may have the fuse in the wrong line; it really needs to be between your primary source of power (the under hood fuse box?) and the lights. Did your lights come with a wiring diagram?

Thanks! I think that is the solution. I recall seeing someplace that the cord from the switch WAS power, which came off the lights. I didn't realize it powered the relay. So I will run the cord to a switched fuse and that should do it.

As far as flashing driving lights/high beams, I usually drive around with the lamps on with low beams. Occasionally a flash from a passing driver but usually not. I just prefer having 4 options for lamps instead of 3. I'm an options kinda guy

The purpose of the relay is to avoid running your main power thru the switch. Some switches are only rated at 10 amps. Assuming your driving lights are 55w each, you're pulling about 9 amps to run the lights. Running all 9 amps thru your switch could lead to premature switch failure due to internal arcing.
