Retrofit rain sensor?

Has anyone done a retrofit of the rain sensor on a 2nd generation MINI? I have a 2011 and really wish I had the sensor, but at the time of purchase it was one of those things I thought I wouldn't mind compromising about. I swear I am going to be more patient and order a MINI with exactly what I want next time rather than picking the best option on the lot. Yesterday was my first day driving home in the rain... intermittent are too slow and the next speed up is way too fast. Annoying!!

Anyhow...

I assume the sensor is integrated with the windshield, but what else do you need to install along with it?

It would not be an easy job.

1. You would definitely need the rain sensor.

2 .You may need the proper wiring harness that goes up to behind the mirror. The one in the car ma not have all the wiring needed.

3. Steering column Switch Unit may need to be changed as there are a number of different units depending on the other options in your car. I.E. do you have the Multi Function Steering Wheel (MFSW), or Cruise but not radio controls this all makes a difference.

Someone here wanted to add the MFSW and found that after something like three different Switch units he had finally found the right combination of modules to get the job done.

4. then when all the correct parts are in place to make it happen then you will have to have it programed by the dealer. That is if they will even do it. Many of the dealer have no idea how to program OEM Factory addons. They just reprogram the car by the VIN Number, which would not do the trick as the VIN say you don't have the rain sensor in place.

Adding some factory ordered items can be very difficult and very time consuming. Sometimes to the point it would be cheaper to order a new car.
