Electrical Escort 9500i remote install idea
Escort 9500i remote install idea - Updated
I am thinking about installing a direct wire cord for my 9500i using the following kit:
http://www.safe-n-sound1.com/Escort%...nd%20Mute.html
except replace the momentary switch and led indicator with a unit like one of these:

A switch like this would be used for muting the 9500i as well as visually indicating power/alarm. I really like the switch on the right as it mounts flush and can be made to look very stealth except for the fact it is not black. I plan to mount the 9500i to the immediate right of the rearview mirror. Yes, it's a bit harder to read on the right of the mirror (vs left) but also harder for someone standing outside my driver's door to see

I like it, seems like a great idea. I already had the hard wire cord form escort/passport when I got mine and used it again in this vehicle. Not as clean but easy enough to install.
After almost 1/2 year later, I finally installed my 9500i as planned. I ended up using the chrome switches instead on black as the black were hard to find. In the end, chrome seemed to match better anyways.
I started with the wiring kit from Safe-n-Sound1 ordering the 2-led option. One of the leds is for power (red in their kit) and the other is for alert (blue in their kit).
I also ordered a 2 switches (see 1st post); 1 momentary with a red led ring and 1 on/off with a blue led ring. I used the momentary switch for the 9500i's mute function and the red led ring on this switch is the alert. The on/off switch controls power to the 9500i while the blue led ring lights up when the power is on.
I think I achieved the look that I was going for and the placement of the switches seems pretty functional. I wanted the placement high enough for visibility but not so high that it's easy to see from the car behind
. The switches also match the interior quite nicely.
