Electrical Power Steering Fan

Power Steering Fan
I just removed and cleaned out the power steering fan on my 03MCS, it was bound up and no movement what so ever. I re-installed it, still nothing (which was expected). Is there a fuse i need to replace, or something i need to do? Im trying to eliminate everything before actually going out and buying a new fan.

It could be the fan, these are common to go bad. But check the fuses in the fuse compartment next to the airbox. There is a 5amp fuse that commonly blows there, but if it's good you just need to replace the fan.

If it was seized, buy a new fan. Buy blowing out the grit, and spraying in sone lube, you can sometimes make it serviceable, but if the bearings a corroded...very likely from beaing stuck, or the windings burnt out, also likely, it may never run, or only run for a short time.
Turn the ac on...I a think I remember o read someplace the fan only turns on when the fan is on high....or when needed...what ever that means....but basicly the car needs to be pretty hot.
The location of the fuse depends on if the wiring has been modified by mini.....
Modified ones are on a fuse in the cabin, rear row, bottom fuse (if I remember right)(there are blank unused spots, so not thevbotton spot, bottom fuse, a 5 amp one I think.
To test to see if fan runs, just use a bit of wire to connect the plugs to some power...it should run on 12v dc, like most anything on a car.

There are a lot of 03s that need radiator fan replacements because the low speed resister is open. Unfortunately your 03 will have a two plug fan and will need full replacement rather than fitting an external resister.

One thing to check....on some mini's the ps fan and the cooling fan for the radiator share a common fuse....if your car is running hot, and the ps fan was stuck, check the main radiator fan. Quite a few cars have had issues...so mini rewired many cars to seperate the power supplies....not all cars got this change...it was not standard till mid 2005.
