Led Wiring Help!

So I understand basic wiring needed for installing Leds in my footwells. I am planning on using flexible led strips from oznium.com and i am going to wire them into my footwell lights so that when the door opens the lights come on. I've seen plenty of threads where people do this so i understand what to do. But, what I haven't seen is the install of led's of different colors run from switches still running through the footwell light dimmer as well. I hope this makes sense.

Basically i want to install three different sets of lights in each footwell each color run by a rocker or toggle switch while its still using the power supply from the footwell lights so they dim after i close the doors and only light up when i unlock the car open the doors or push the button on the dome light (i don't have a dimmer).

Is this just crazy or would it work?

I'll attach an image that i drew on a sketch program is this how i should set it up for it to function or am i completely wrong? I'm quite curious because i would love to have the ablity to change my footwell colors. And i haven't seen anyone else who has it.

And I realize i could just buy the million color lights but those go through patterns and require a key fob. I just want switches

It'll work....

but that way takes three switches. You can put a single switch before you break out to the locations....

Also, how much current will you be pulling and how much headroom is on the lines that you'll be using to drive the LED strips?

If you need more current than the line will support, you can take the 12 VDC from somewhere else and use the existing light line to drive that.

Millions of colors from something like this is possible, but you need to use variable supplies to the different color strips. It's not that hard but would need a circuit built up and a switch or two to drive the color changes.

Sky is the limit!

Matt

Your circuit will work. You'll be able to independently switch R, G, B on/off in any combination. LEDs use little current and there should be adequate power to run all three colors at the same time. I assume you'll be disconnecting or removing the OEM filament bulb, and in fact you'll probably end up using LESS power than before.

As Matt suggested, an option is to run million color LED strips to avoid having 3 switches and 3 strips. Oznium sells several models of color LED controllers (here).

I suggest that you also consider lighting up the footwells of the rear seat, which I and others have done. Mount LED strips under the front seats. They are a great benefit if you ever carry passengers in the rear.

Controlling each independently was my goal. And yes i do intend on removing the OEM filament.

I may do this since i am considering placing a dummy bulb in my dome light since i cant place 3 different color leds in there.

How did you run the wiring from under the dash to under the seats. I have an '03 MCS so there is carpeting between the E-brake and my mirror control.
