I have a 2007 MCS that didn't come with any type of homelink or programmable garage door opener. I'd like to add one, possible to the center roof light fixture, or at least somewhere obscure. Right now I use the type that clips to the visor. Has anyone done this or have a suggestion of how to go about putting one...somewhere? Also, if I could get one off a newer model (08-10) from a salvage yard or spare parts department, do you think it would fit in the 07?

Physically it would probably be just a replacement but as for the wiring needed for the Homelink it is probably not in your car. That would make it rather difficult to add.

 

Personally, I'm hoping to purchase this one day...

It was done on a Gen 1, but the instructions should still apply. The wiring is easy. Ground and power.

 

Thanks guys, I knew about the flash2pass but I'm still rather unimpressed with it, I'd rather have a straight up button on the roof somewhere. I may see if I can engineer something myself, I have an open toggle switch spot where the light switches are, maybe I can find a replacement switch from a salvage yard and wire that to my opener. I'll let you know what I figure out.

 

I have velcroed a small transmitter under my arm rest. Cheap and out of sight.

 

The switches up there are not like normal switches. it it just a toggle that activates two micro switches that are built into the sub structure. You most likely will not be able to fit a toggle or other switch up there.

But thinking about it. After the cover peice has been removed there is am opening in the sub structure that would house the Alarm Motion sensor, and if you do not have the alarm that would be a place you could put the transmitter and then fashion some sort of button to press the button on the transmitter.

 

The FES Auto Sport module will let you use your Sport or DSC button via double tap. It can be connected to a garage door opener or any other accessory.

 

Is this about what you are looking for? This was done with a homelink visor that I picked up at a salvage yard for free (It had been taken off and was sitting in the dirt). I'm not too happy with the color difference, so I'll probably try again with another visor color. Once I find the right color, I'll do a writeup. Be warned that it involves some decent dremel skills. Splicing 2 wires shouldn't be a problem though, right?

That looks awesome, well except for the color issue but if you were to find a black switch set that would look good. Or maybe try some interior paint to match the grey color. Taping the numbers may be tough but could be well work it.

That is EXACTLY what I was looking for. Where did you pull the power feed from? I'll see if I can find a homelink switch somewhere around here, possibly black.

As for the numbers, maybe a stencil or something? Personally I'd just take them off, it would make for a more "sleak" look.

If you search on here for hardwired radar detectors, or others doing a homelink mod, you can find the correct wires. It is a larger purple with blue stripe for switched +12V, and brown for ground, I believe.

edit1: I should also add that the numbers light up... green. I'll be desoldering some LEDs in the near future. I don't really need them to light up, but if I can find an orange replacement without too much effort, I'll do it. This is a work in progress as you can see. Painting the whole thing black would be the cheapest and easiest solution though.

edit2: I pulled mine down and confirmed that the +12 is the larger purple with blue stripe, and the ground is brown. Pins 5 and 6, respectively, on the black connector.

I took a very simple approach to this issue. I fastened a couple of strips of 3M double sided "foam" tape to the back side my garage door opener and stuck it upside down to the roof of the small storage area ahead of the gearshift lever. You cannot see it but it is easy to reach your hand into that box and press the button. Just as easy as reaching overhead to toggle a switch or press a button. Low cost, simple solution.

 

Do you guys think that the auto-dimming mirror with buttons for garage door will not work on my 2007? Local jank yard has one for $125 and I am think of getting it.

 

I would check to see if the wiring is in your car before purchase.
