Window not going all the way up...

As of a couple days ago, my window is not sealing 100%. As I hit the switch to bring it back up, it reverses before it reaches the top as if something was in the way. I eventually had to drag the window up with two hands to get it 99% up, but it still would not do the last 1% and create the seal.

Anybody have a similar problem?

I am sure someone will chime in with better advice but for now you get me

At a local tech talk, I remember the tech saying this is a fairly common issue for 2nd generation MINIs (I have a 1st gen, so didnt pay a lot of attention). The reason was that lowering your window partway and then raising it didnt enable it to *reset* properly. Completely lowering the window and raising it a few times should fix the issue if I am remembering correctly. Or maybe it was to make sure to lower your window completely (then raise) on a regular basis to keep this problem from happening in the future. Told you I didnt really pay attention... Hope this helps anyway!

The actual procedure for reset has been posted many many many times here on NAM but I will post it again.

1. Hold window switch in down position and after window is all the way down continue to hold for 15 seconds.

2. Release and let sit for 5 or more seconds.

3. Hold window switch in up position and after window is closed continue to hold for 15 seconds.

4. Window should now operate properly. If it does not then it is a programing error in the window control circuits and needs software to be re-installed.

This is a very very common problem with 2nd Gen cars.

here are links to a few threads about this problem

Glad it worked for you...and that I remembered it right. Just remember to put it all the way down and then back up every so often!

The BMW service advisor told me to run the windows down all the way up and down once a week to help keep them in "sync" with the computer. So far that has worked for me for six months or so.
