OBD port cover

Can someone tell me what the resistor in the cover of my OBD port does? My cover has 4 connectors with two of them having a small resistor between them?

My OBD port cover has 3 pins and no resistor that I can see. Can you post a picture of the resistors? Whatever the cover does, it can't be too important. One time, I forgot to close the cover and it was left open for a couple of months .

Yes, I have had mine open while the scan gauge was plugged in and didnt notice anything. Its just a tiny resistor the type used on a circuit board.

The resistor is only fitted for cars that have Xenon headlights.
It helps the lights fire up when 1st started.

Interesting... I've had my cover removed for over a year (to better accommodate my ScanGauge) and have had no issues. And I have Xenons.

Maybe the scangauge act as a resistor?

I've driven quite a bit without the scangauge plugged in, and with no cover. No issues that I've noticed.

Where did you see this information? It doesn't make sense that a resistor on a digital bus would affect the xenons firing up.

@ rkw,

I know this information as was on the the R50/53/52 engineering team for the dashboard.

The resistor was a last minute addition due to power issues with Xenon headlights....
