unless there's a resistor built-in, it'll give you a bulb out, i have a pair that's just like the photo. I haven't had anything under 13-SMDs prevent the bulb out, even those will cause them after a while. Frankly, I find the 9-SMD not bright enough anyway.

replace the single SMD with a true high-power unit and it might work. I'm not well versed enough to try altering mine and my friend doesn't import bulbs anymore.

Just so you know - no bulb out at all with the mach v led kit.

The instructions just looked like a pain as I was explaining how to install a resistor assuming the audience had no idea at all.

Put in Hoen H8 Endurance YL and all is great

I put the Hoen H8 Endurance YL in my 2010 MCS yestesday and the look is great. Intense YL color and great road visibility. Had to jack car up & pull the wheel to get good access to the bulb. There is a plastic bulb tab that prevents you from rotating the bulb easily with the connector on. You'll want to get that connector off before rotating the bulb. With the wheel off you can squeeze the connector 2 side pivoting hold downs and rotate the bulb counter clockwise easily to remove. Watch as the red gasket from the original bulb likes to stay stuck in the socket. Align the 3 metal bulb tabs & rotate it clockwise to lock in in the socket. Put the whell well cover on and enjoy!!

Alright, replaced the eyelids, there's a bulb out warning when you first turn on the car, but it goes away after like ten seconds. Now my second problem is getting the fogs out, I keep trying to turn them but they don't budge, I tried unclipping them from the harness, but that's also basically stuck together Anyone have any advice on getting them out?

New bulbs installed/question on cleaning inside lenses

Fog Lights Hoen H8 xenonmatch:

City Lights W5W:

The installation took me 5 minutes. Turned the wheels, popped the cap off, unclipped both lights. City light has one pressure clip and the fog light has two pressure clips on the sides. (Note: I don't think it's possible to get the bulb mounts out without unclipping the harness. There just isn't enough room to twist.) Once both wire harnesses are off I just twisted the bulb mount counter-clock wise. City light I just swapped the bulb in the mount, fog light I replaced the whole mount, which has the bulb in it. Plugged everything back in and so far so good. No bulb out warnings or flickering.

I would say it's a pretty nice mod, and not too expensive either, and extremely easy to do.
Thanks for this post the combination of bulbs provides excellent light. I had to install a new foglight assembly on the driver's side as a rock cracked the lens a while back. I put these new bulb in that assembly and the undamaged passenger side foglight assembly. the light is good but there is a difference as the original assembly is oxidized a tad on the inside of the lens. Any ideas on how to clean inside a foglight assembly? Tools required?

I had no problems, just rotated them counterclockwise. One was a little stubborn but it came loose.

So I switched out to amder markers and yellow fog lights. The white lights are pretty useless at 35 watts. These yellow bulbs are 55 watts and so far kick-***. being 55 watts I was a bit concerned about melting the inside of the housing or blowing a fuse but so far everything is working great. The extra 40 watts of light from the new fog lights is a HUGE difference.

Yellow works better as a fog light. Thinking function over form.

Wow Krim is right! I just checked and the pesky source of my bulbout is the 13 SMD eyelids. That is strange how when you first put them in, months go by and there is no bulbout but eventually there it is. The moment you use the turn signal it goes out. Sound familiar? OK we need to figure out how to fake out the computer. 36ohm 5 watt should do the trick on paper at least

Wow, just went through the whole thread - and am probably more confused than when I started. What are people getting for their fogs + driving lights? I was thinking of getting some Apexcone Raptor HIDs for the fogs - they have pretty solid quality - but it's a hassle with the ballast and all that junk, plus probably need a resistor anyway.

Is there a resistor-free bulb that fits and is white? Are the Hoens being recommended?

13SMD White for eyelid, and Nokya yellows for fog.

Now that i'm back in the country, I did a quick pull and here's my theory, the 13SMD is too long, and the center of gravity is too far forward. So in time as the bulb bounces around the base loosens up along the connections. I noticed a little more wiggle room than when I put them in months ago. I tweaked the two leads a little and it seems to have stopped most of the bulb out warnings except for the large bumps. I'll have to pull it out again when i'm not jetlagged and thinking clearly. Possibly with blobs of plasti-dip or electrical tape wrap to secure it to the socket so it isn't bouncing around.

first one probably won't be bright enough to be seen in the daylight. Probably quite dim at night. I have a 5SMD and I could barely see it over my Xenon glare.

the amber looks good. if nothing else i'm going to do those.
i ordered another set of led's on ebay with the seller backing it up or money back.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...#ht_5296wt_952

hopefully they're good to go. i really ALMOST wish i'd not got the xenon bulbs because if they all were dingy yellowish i'd not care but xenon next to regular bulbs looks stupid.

Hello Group and Happy Holiday's
I did the modification on the lights, but i wanted to do something a little different.

I have the Xeon lights and for the turn signal's bulbs, i was thinking of putting HID lights.

Has anyone done anything like this. Is it possible on the fitting, would it be just easier just have a bright LED bulb and make the turn signal into a running light.

I want the turn signal bulb to be the running lights. Wiring is not the issue, Fitting HID is??

Just a quick question:
Does anyone have experience with the iJDM H8 LED replacement bulbs. Do I need load resistors or will the Mini be ok. Really not in the mood for error codes.

The bulbs I ordered have been in about a month and have been great. They are an 8smd led buld that I liked above. I'm holding my breath that they'll work long term! I got plate bulbs from the same guy and they too have been good.

Does anyone have any pics of the Hoen W5W city lights (NON LEDs) installed on their MINI?
Any issues with the higher heat output from OEM bulbs?

Thanks.

Franklinmini What bulbs did you buy for the reverse lights that match the whiter spectrum of LEDs or the Xenons

Also I just bought the Hoen H8 for the Fogs and the Hoen W5W (non LED) for the daytime running lights.

Do these have issues? I have been trying to match up the lights for a while and read through most of the post but haven't really gotten any concrete answers.

They should match better than the OEM lights, but did the Hoen W5Ws have bulb out issuse?

Same for the Hoen H8's

Thanks

you shouldn't have any problem with that w5w hoen bulb. from what i read on their site when i did mine it's just brighter and some kind of coating on the glass (or maybe it IS blue glass)

the only downside to the hoen's or any of these blue bulbs. when they are off and you look in there there is a lot of blue reflecting. that's all i don't like about my hoen fog bulbs.

i think it's just led's that start the bulb out issues as they draw quite a bit less power. which has got me thinking. if you get enough smd bits on the led piece it should draw enough to not present an issue. maybe i'm missing something but if the system is looking for 5W(for example) consumption from the bulb and you had 5 1W smd's wouldn't it naturally take care of itself without any type of resistor?
