Higher Amp Driving Lights on EOM Kit?

I understand the EOM Driving Lights have 55-watt bulbs. I suspect that is because it is the US limit for on-road Legal power.

Most of the after-market lights I am concidering are 100, or even 130-watt bulbs. I am leaning toward 100-watt KC's. While I would really like to use the OEM wiring kit (at $52 it doesn't seem outrageously priced) I naturally would like to avoid burning wires, relay and the car up.

I suspect the OEM wiring kit can actually handle more that the 55-watt bulbs as I doubt they have a different Euro kit for more powerfull lights. Anyone know? Does any one have there EOM wiring hooked up to anything more than 55-watts?

The additional wattage will produce added heat inside the housing and sometimes subject the bulb to shorter than expected life span.

Should have mentioned, I am not going to put higher wattage bulbs in OEM lights. Will be using new lights designed for the heat, just want to use OEM wiring.

The OEM wiring kit is not made for that kind of wattage and would probably burn up as it is barely rated for what it is drive as factory standard.

I would recommend NOT using the OEM wiring kit.

I'm not very familiar with driving lights, but why not drop in a 35W HID kit instead of using a 100W bulb?

^^ I think that would make alot more sense instead of re-wiring the whole thing.

Do the high wattage lights. Why not just tap an in-line fuse between your power source (factory lights) and your upgraded driving lights? Blow a fuse if anything. I have the alta light kit on my R53 tapped in the stock HID's, running 2 55W and 2 100W bulbs, no issues after 3 years and a few hundred hours on them
It should be okay

I agree with Schatzy about the OEM wireing and relay. It will NOT handle the extra amperage.

Where do you drive with those lights? Do you live in the mountains?
