Auto open sunroof?

I haven't been in this section forever..but has anyone figured out a way to make the sunroof open with one touch like it used to be in the R53??

Honestly so simple and dumb but its one of the biggest annoyances for me with the R56!

Do a search and you will find that there are a number of threads on this subject and BTW no one has found a way to auto open all the way back.

Auto open only works for the double raised function.

wow

That sounds crazy, the one on my 2005 opens all the way if I slide the button backward (as if to open it regular) and hold it to the rear momentarily before releasing. Doing that should pop the roof open and the rest should be automatic. Hope this helps, I don't think Mini would change that feature on 08's.

They did. My 09 MCS doesn't auto open. It's annoying as all hell.

On the Second Gen Mini's

One press to open to the double tilt

Press and HOLD until it is open all the way

Press and HOLD to Close from full open

Press and HOLD to Close from Double Tilt.

Interesting, the momentary hold works for both opening and closing the roof on the ol' Jet Black. What the hell are they doing over there in Germany

I am thinking there must be a website SOMEWHERE that sells a flash module that you use once to program this feature.

I found one for my VW New Beetle (2006 TDI) that I used once to flash the ECU, then my key fob worked to open AND close the windows with one touch of the lock or open button! This was great for when you forgot to put up your windows but had already taken the key out!

I think I got it at ECS tuning... they sell BMW parts but no MINI parts sadly... I bought it for $50 or so if I recall...

i sent an email to ECS Tuning asking if they offered anything for the kit. they said they didn't have anything, but the wiring should be similar to the wiring in BMWs and sent me this how to link. anyone brave enough to be a guina pig...?

That part is not going to work.

The E36 BMW was manufactured from 1991 to 2000 and had some but not alot of computer control.

All of the Mini's Functions are computer controled by one module or another.

Also on the E36 BMW the power for the sunroof went to a single pole switch and then on to the sunroof motor. The motor opened the sun roof or closed the sunroof.

In the Mini there is a 3 pole 4 position switch. The switch position dictates tot he electronics control module in the sunroof takes.

I would suggest that no one try that part as they will damage the sunroof control module. The sunroof control module has 12 VDC input but it is not a switched line, it is on all the time. All the control functions are done by low level control signals depending on the position of the switch. There is also a connection to the CAN bus for control by other items such as the Car Access System. I.E. there is a mini computer in the sunroof control module that handles all the fuctions not a 12 VDC switch.

Now can this be changed by programing - Probably but to get mini to release the info needed and getting someone to do it will be every expensive.

I'd actually just love to have the "dial a position" sunroof style that VW/Audi uses. Far superior than a swtich or button in my opinion... but then again... I do love the toggles!

+1 since we now own a R53 and a R56, it's really annoying.

The thread linked seems to be dead, but highly intereted if there was ever a solution to this.

Also - auto-up/auto-down windows on a 2009 Cooper S hatch. What gives, why absent?

You can get a one touch OPEN/CLOSE sunroof module from...

http://www.kptechnologies.com/

it is the ITEM#MO20 for 49.99

I put one in my 2010 Clubman and it works like a charm.

Got one from Outmotoring for my '07 MCS and it works wonderful. Engine needs to be running but other than that it works great. I find that I use the sunroof more now that it's just a double tap on the switch to open or close.
