raptor shift light install

Has anybody installed a raptor shift light or something similar. The processor is integrated. Wondering which wire needs to be tapped?
Thanks!

You might want to hold off on that. There is a MINI Owner designed and built shift light coming. I've been one of the beta testers and while I can't give away the details, I can say it's a much better product then the Raptor.

thanks Dustin! is this going to be similar in length and diameter as the raptor. I had the raptor in my 03 cobra and worked very well and was pretty small. In what ways will this light be superior and how long am I going to have to wait?

You didn't hear it from me, but the same basic size with clip designed for the tach it looks OEM. You will be able to customize the light colors and RPM settings for day to day and or racing events. Comes with software to do the above and you can also download data after an event to study.

I gotta tread lightly here...

cause I'm not a NAM vendor yet. But then, the light isn't for sale yet either. We're in final beta stages of a shift light that supports gear-dependant shift points, has RGB LED so it's any color you want, and supports up to four different digitally controlled outputs that can be set as a funcion of RPM or speed or both.

Our web site is going live in a week or two, and that triggers becoming a NAM vendor. Any more questions just PM to me...

FWIW, AutoXCooper is one of the beta testers.

Matt

Instead of giving you a sales pitch on something that isn't out yet

I followed the instructions for a JCW shift light, that has a box for the processor, you can read the PDF from *this* post bottom of page 3 top of page 4 in the PDF have the wire taps listed, aside from brown being the ground I'm not sure which is which without looking it up. So within that list is what you'll have to tap, if not all of them depending onthe wiring witht he raptor.

BTW it worked here's my vid and a photo

Whats the price difference between the raptor and the JCW? The JCW definitely looks more factory and has green, yellow, red. Instead of just 1 color LED. I cant imagine one being harder or easier to install than the other. I guess we'll have to wait to see about this new one thats coming out.

Only problem I have with the JCW is that it's not exactly in the line of sight when your in the heat of battle...

With the R53 light I definitely thought that, with the R56 light (the one installed on my R53) it is so bright that any peripheral isn't missed, it's easier during the day, at night it's almost too bright. And the Green LED is almost perpetually blocked by electrical tape

I just got a Raptor on Ebay for half price. Let's just hope it works!
I was looking at the JCW, and while they look cool in 20 second clips, I think I would get tired of it quickly.
I have a 17% pulley sitting in the garage waiting to be put in and all the talk about over spinning the SC kind of freaked me out, so I thought this would be a bit of cheap insurance. I just wanted something simple to tell me "That's enough" for the very rare instances I even get that high in the revs.
I had a couple of cool ideas for mounting locations, but after some research I don't think they will work. I'll post a pic when complete. Probably next week sometime.

Another reason I went with the Raptor. Too many people complaining about the green light. I know you can supposedly dim it a bit, and a few have tinted all the leds, but I still think it would get old.
Just my $.02

one of the nice things about the Beta unit I have is the rainbow of colors to use and they are all muted and not over bearing at night. It's fun to redline at night. My light is mounted at 4 o'clock on my tach and the glow is not too bright and just right at night.

I won't post pics because the beta unit may not look like the unit that is sold. It looks very much like the Raptor tube, just a little longer. The light is not that super bight LED, but not 100% sure what the production unit will have. The color of the lights is really endless, not just green, yellow and red, but 100's of others that you can set on the software, think of it like setting the hue on a pic in photo shop.

Ok, I got my Raptor light today. I've read Raptor's install instructions and Alta's shift light instructions and was wondering if I could apply Alta's to the Raptor.

The Raptor has Red(power), Black(ground), and Green(tach) wires.

Alta says for the R56 light, " Green wire on Indicator goes to Green with Blue Stripe, Brown to Brown, White to White with Red Stripe".

So my question is can I put the Red to the White with Red Stripe, the Black to Brown, and the Green to the Green with Blue Stripe?

Or should I just run the Red to the fuse box with an "Add-A-Circuit", Black to a ground point, and Green to the Green with Blue Stripe?

Thanks for any help.
Jason

I got my light installed last night.
Here's a tip, Green does not go to Green with Blue stripe.

For those that are curious..

RPM signal is on pin 9 of the OBD-II connector. Pins 4 and 5 are ground (one chassis, one some sort of signal). I don't remember what pin is the hot lead, but that's easy to find with a volt meter.
