I'm looking at buying an Escort 9500 ci for my 2008 MCS Cabrio. I like the idea of a custom installed radar detector, but I'm not sure about the mounting/placement of the control switch or the display. Has anyone placed one in a Mini and if so could you post some photos? Any tips on installation and experiences would be great, too. I want to make sure it's the right thing for me and the Mini before I go dropping $2000 on a radar detector/laser shifter.

Based on the basic size of the CI display (I've seen photos and read the manual so I've a relative impression) I'd say you could install it into the dash in a similar manner to those of us that have done V1 CD installs (I cut into the dash just next to the tach, I know one person cut into the dash just below the center speedo, and one person filled an empty slot in a gauge holder.

As far as mounting the control unit I think the best place would be between the seats, right next to the E-brake.

The junction box would probably have room and be safest above the interior fuse box, if you open the drivers door and pop out the panel in the dash, and there should be plenty of access to the frame to find a suitable mounting location.

I'm yet to see a 9500ci make it into a MINI though. They've great reviews, I wouldn't mind one in addition to the V1 for certain situations, but no parting with the arrows for me!
