yeah, I've upgraded 55 to 100 before and it's incremental at best, but noticeable. Once I burn one out I'll get Silverstars (or something as good but not $15 a pop) just to get a closer color match...

My favorite lights were some Hella squares I had on our modified '85 Volvo 245 GT Wagon... had 4 squares up front, with 55/100 bulbs in 'em, and 55W fogs. Had a similar setup in my '91 16V GTI, (4) 100W bulbs up front.,.. nice...

The Hella 500 Driving lamps are almost too much of a pencil for me - I like the controlled beam, just want more ofa "driving" lamp than a distance one. Ah well, they're definitely "good enough". If I had 4 Hella 500 driving lamps properly splayed out that'd be awesome.

Well by definition the "pencil" type beams are driving lamps, the wide angle lamps are the "fog" lights.

I know, it's "shades of grey". I'm trying to draw a distinction between a pencil (laserlike staight, no scatter) and driving beam (kind of a higher-powered high beam, slightly less laser-like, with more beam spread than the 500, but not a fog. , if that makes any sense.

... mere words don't describe it well enough I'm afraid!

I do appreciate all the input here. I think I'm going to try upgrading to 100 for our driving lights, aim them as best as I can, and then tighten them down so they don't slip. I also appreciate the wiring tips. Xenons look like they'd be awesome, if only I had unlimited funds.
